EHU is a unique institution – offering liberal arts education with a European values foundation to students from Belarus and across Eastern Europe. In a complex regional context, the university needed to modernize its visual identity while preserving the integrity of its mission: to foster civil society, independent thinking, and cultural development through the humanities.
The challenge was to translate this civic and intellectual mission into a contemporary brand system that would energize students, signal credibility internationally, and create coherence across departments, faculties, and media platforms. The old brand lacked the cohesion and flexibility needed to support the university’s cross-border academic relevance.
Academic Motif Library
Every department is represented by a unique geometric motif. These motifs are grounded in visual logic, tying back to core themes within each discipline. From zigzags for Political Science to dotted matrices for Visual Design, the motifs appear in web pages, printed materials, student kits, and signage—adding character and helping navigation.
Logo System & Wordmark
A bold logotype paired with a modular symbol forms the backbone of EHU’s identity. The symbol distills educational themes—cap, smile, book—into a memorable monogram that can scale across all touchpoints. Whether etched into signage, stitched onto merchandise, or animated on screen, it delivers instant recognition and deep semantic value.
Campus Signage & Wayfinding
Custom department posters and wayfinding signage use the motif system as directional anchors. Bold shapes and simplified directions make orientation intuitive, while the visual consistency builds trust and ease of use for newcomers and returning students alike.
