This website represents a group of cartoon characters similar to Hello Kitty and the Sanrio clan. As such, the site offers information on this cute crew in colors and shapes that tie into their brand.

However, is this set of cartoony characters made for adults or children? While the characters are distinctly childlike, the logo design shows that they are all business with a more adult burgundy. The name of the company is written in lower case letters that are minimalist and simple, with not a hint of youth. These cartoons will certainly appeal to children, but they are intended for people of all ages.
The landing page shows all of the characters cavorting in a bright, sunny land. Fun posts take the place of a navigation bar. Although the page is fun and informative, it might be more so if clicking on each character took you to a page dedicated to that persona. As it is, you must go to a dedicated “Meet the Characters” page with just a few of the characters featured. While several characters are well represented, there are many that go neglected.
The website is simple, but it has all of the functions that one would expect from a much more popular brand. Yipori is clearly ready for success and waiting for that one great opportunity. Downloads allow you to make characters a part of your daily life, while a shop is being designed to allow you to buy products designed around the characters. It is easy to see this group of lovable critters becoming a cult classic and taking off like so many internet brands.
Here is our critique of the Yipori website:
Creativity: 3 stars. The characters are definitely creative, but the web design itself could have been a little more imaginative. As we mentioned earlier, there are opportunities to add a little ‘wow factor’ to the home page. Because the website is trying to promote the characters, every little bit would help.
Ease of use: 4 stars. The little tabs are adorable, and they are organized so that you can find any part of the website easily. There are other, less used categories on a small navigation bar at the bottom. We would suggest putting all of these at the top, so customers don’t have to scan the entire page to get the information that they need.
Functionality: 5 stars. There is plenty of contact information and links to the Twitter, Facebook, and company blog. There is no way to leave this website without the tools you need to become a lifelong fan, which may be its greatest strength. There are also links to the artist’s work displayed on other sites.
Content: 5 stars. The content is well written and relevant to the characters being represented. Further, the characters are shown throughout the site with little talk bubbles that give you a good idea of the character’s personality.
Appropriateness: 5 stars. This website is definitely appropriate for the brand it represents.
Overall: 4.4 stars. The characters and the website just scream ‘cute’ and certainly make the viewer want to find out more.
