Tokyo Illustrators Website Review

(623)

The amount of visual beauty on this website is a little overwhelming, which I suppose is to be expected. This crisp, clean CSS website for Tokyo Illustrators Society works well both to promote the organization and to promote the members.

Because there are so many different illustrations on the landing page, a very simple theme is necessary. A white and light gray color scheme dominate the website with occasional orange accents to draw attention to different elements. The writing and the icons are kept extremely simple to allow the artwork to grab all of the viewer’s attention. This is also important because it eliminates the cluttered feeling that would otherwise result from so many picture tiles.

This website functions not just as a hub for the group, but as a place to look for an illustrator should you need one. When you see work that you like among the tiles on the landing page, you can click on it and get information on the artist, including a brief profile and contact info. There is also information about the Tokyo Illustrators Society, including the aims of the organization and different events that it sponsors.

One notable thing about this website is that the transition between pages is very smooth and flowing. The ability to control little (yet noticeable!) factors such as this is one of the reasons that so many people prefer CSS website design. Not only is all of this information at your fingers, it will move to your desktop in a harmonious way. This is important in a website such as this one, where aesthetics are clearly important to the visitors and members.

Creativity: 5 stars. We give this website maximum creativity points because we love the simple design and the way the artwork is allowed to be the star of the website.

Ease of use: 5 stars. The website is very easy to use. A navigation bar to the left of every page makes it simple to find what you need. Every aspect of the website can be accessed in just two clicks. This is considered the ideal, but many website simply cannot reach it.

Functionality:  2 stars. How do you contact this website? With no social networking links and no blog, it is hard to tell. If you scroll down to the bottom of the “About TIS” page, there is a tiny email link at the bottom. This is so hard to find (and so insufficient), but we consider it a blight on an otherwise perfect website.

Content: 5 stars. The content is very good, especially for a website that does not use English as its native language. Everything is professional and correct.

Appropriateness: 5 stars. This website is very appropriate for its genre; in fact, it is hard to think of a website being better for this organization. It creates an environment in which the artwork and the artists can really shine.

Overall: 4.4 out of 5 stars
