Pop Culture Website Review

(618)

We have seen several pop culture websites such as Perez Hilton become very popular in the past few years; in fact, the authors have achieved not just financial security but celebrity as well. The Kineda website aims to copy this model with a twist; they add product reviews and fashion information, which are also lucrative and can attract immense amounts of traffic. The Kineda website is designed to handle its topic with style and sophistication due to its CSS web design.

Website Reviewed: Kineda

Website URL: kineda

The home page is black, which is generally associated with fashion. In addition, it allows the photos to really stand out. Sites that use a lot of photographs need a simple background in order to avoid a cluttered and unpleasant feeling. This website has a ‘blog style’ with the most recent posts on the home page organized with the most recent at the top. In addition, there are prime slots at the very top given to featured stories and most popular posts of the week.

This website is not just informative (if you are interested in the latest celeb gossip and fun new products, that is), it has been designed for profit as well. There are links to the Kineda store as well as social networking websites for the brand.

One of our issues with this CSS website is that it is a little plain. Certainly the CSS style allows the owners to intuitively organize the information, but it also has high style capabilities. The Kineda website is walking a fine line between simple sophistication and blandness, and sometimes venturing onto the wrong side of that line.

However, the features are interesting enough to attract interested traffic and keep them coming back. We hope that as Kineda grows they will develop a stronger brand and make it a more integral part of their website. However, the website is still a great example of the sleek and well-organized feeling that CSS can give to a website.

Creativity: 2 stars. This is probably the website’s greatest shortcoming: its lack of creativity both in the design and the structure. There is little to set it apart from other websites in its genre.

Ease of use: 5 stars. The Kineda website is extremely easy to use. It is easy to find what you are seeking with very little effort. This sense of organization is important in a website that focuses on a diverse range of topics.

Functionality: 4 stars. The website has links to social networking and even a store, but it could benefit greatly if products from the store were more prominently featured on the homepage. Few customers are going to visit the Kineda store simply to browse; they need to be lured in with photos of the products and promotions.

Content: 5 stars. The content is well-written and has a professional feeling that is appropriate for the brand.

Appropriateness: 5 stars. The sleek black is simple and sophisticated. While we would like to see the graphic design spiced up a little, the website is nonetheless very appropriate for its genre.

Overall: 4.2 out of 5 stars.
