It has been quite a while since I last reviewed a website. We have been quite busy with our move to New York and our company rebranding etc. I wanted to get back into writing more reviews and this I hope will put me back on track.
With today’s site we see the full potential of CSS web design: a huge, somewhat interactive ecommerce website with a lot of useful functions. Pokka Dots is a company offering gear for babies, children, and families. They use CSS design to create a bright and interesting website where it is easy to shop.

Obviously this website is too large for us to go through page by page, so we’ll break it down for you. The home page shows featured products, sale items, and other popular goods, but it also has a navigation bar for the shopper who already knows what they want. When you hover over a category on the navigation bar, a list of more detailed choices pops down. On each category page you can search by style, brand, price, and a variety of other factors, or just browse.
The product pages include a photo of the product with several pictures and pop-out function that allows zoom. There is also detailed product information, including specifications and any additional shipping costs, along with a section where visitors can read reviews and leave them as well. These pages also allow you to email the page to a friend or to yourself, so you can share information.
The website also offers a registry, which is essential in this industry. In fact, not having a registry for a business catering to babies, weddings, or other gift-giving events can be financially disastrous. You can also make a wish list for other events, or get live chat support. They haven’t thought of everything, but Pokka Dots comes pretty darn close.
Creativity: 3 stars. While the multi-functionality of this website is top-notch, the actual creativity seems to be lacking. The colors, images, and other visual elements are predictable and even bland. This brand has a lot of room for creativity; hopefully they will grow into it as their website gains clout.
Ease of use: 5 stars. This website is designed so that it is very easy to use. It can be difficult to organize this amount of information, but Pokka Dots does so in an intuitive way that allows customers to either zero in on what they need or stop and browse for a bit.
Functionality: 5 stars. There are so many ways to interact with both the company and its products, as well as other customers via reviews. This will make customers feel better about buying from the company.
Content: 3 stars. The content is a little difficult to read at times and has multiple errors in spelling and grammar. This is easy to overlook because the product information is available in the photos and reviews, but it detracts from the professional feeling of the website.
Appropriateness: 5 stars. This website is appropriate for its industry and offers services (such as registries and live chat) that are standard in the field. Parents will love shopping at Pokka Dots and their children will love the products as well.
Overall: 4.2 out of 5 stars
