Many of the CSS websites included here are created for designers of some sort, whether graphic designers, logo designers, or web designers. It is particularly important that people in these industries have professional and interesting websites. In fact, their own website just may be the most important part of their portfolio.

How can you show that you are a worthy designer with your own website? Because every designer has their own unique sense of style, it is important to show it off in your online presence. Playlab does just this. This website is fun and playful in an intelligent way, as suggested by the name and logo design. The design itself is very simple, but highly functional with a variety of different elements fit neatly on the front page.

One of the things that we like a lot about this page is that it is very easy to find what you want. A navigation bar at the top offers links to key pages, but these are also available as you read through the page. Information is given about each section along with the pertinent link. Buttons that will take you to the designer’s Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites are also present in a variety of places. This is accomplished without feeling redundant or boring, another big bonus. The black and white color palette has a hint of blue, which jives with the modern feeling while adding a little bit of interest and contrast. The simplicity and color scheme of the website work well with the logo design and the business brand being presented.

Creativity: 4 stars. The color scheme and fonts used are crisp and modern, which is a good fit with the brand. Different colored backgrounds are used to mark different sections, subtly dividing the page. The use of talk bubbles for headers was one element we particularly liked. However, if the designer wanted to show off web design skills, this website would have been a good place for clever accents and features with ‘wow factor’. While this is a good website, there is nothing that makes our jaws drop.

Ease of use: 5 stars. As we mentioned before, this website is particularly easy to use due to the same information being available in a variety of places. Clearly segmenting information into logical categories and using color to lead the eye to these categories makes everything on this website easy to find.

Functionality: 5 stars. There are links to a variety of social networking sites and a portfolio showing the designer’s latest work. In all, the website functions exactly as it should.

Content: 3 stars. The content is one area where serious improvements could be made. The text is awkward and does not read well in English. While the business is Italian, it clearly is trying to reach out to an English speaking market. Having poorly translated content scares off clients who may fear that language difficulties would interfere with the successful completion of a project.

Appropriateness: 5 stars. This site is completely appropriate to the industry of the business. It shows off the designer’s sense of style and ability to create a well organized website.

Overall: 4.4 stars. The Playlab website is playful and functional, just like the name.
