Melbourne Studio of Art Website Review

We’ve talked before about how art and design related businesses need to have a well-designed website. An art school definitely falls under this category. Students, parents, and members of the community will be looking at this website. What they see there will give them subtle and not-so-subtle messages about the school’s artistic presence and professionalism.

Website URL:

Different pieces of art make up the background, while information is placed on a white rectangle in the center. Pastel colors are generally used in these works of art, which ties into the logo design. The website itself is fairly straightforward; you can look through the different courses offered and access pricing easily. Like many of the best CSS websites, this site incorporates elements from its logo design into the rest of the website to create a strong brand.

The navigation bar at the top of each page makes it easy to find what you need. Each page serves as a hub, with links to additional information on the left. While this could probably be dealt with better by having a drop-down function in the navigation bar, it does not add more than a click to your surfing time and is thus forgivable.

In addition to the necessary information about the classes offered, there is a section on the teachers, assuring potential students that they will be taught by qualified and experienced professionals. There is detailed information on corporate classes, which is important because this is a somewhat unconventional choice and interested parties will want to know exactly the activities will entail. Hint: it includes wine and nude models for life drawing, making it a very unconventional work activity indeed.

This website is small and succinct, but that is part of its charm. It gives you just the facts, and organizes them so you can actually find them. While the website is very simple, this makes it easy to find whatever you are looking for quickly.

Creativity: 5 stars. The pictures in the background are artistic and certainly relevant to the topic. In addition, there are more subtle creative devices used throughout, such as the handwritten ‘explore your creativity’ written below each page. The instructors’ galleries are beautiful as well, and give insight into the teachers’ level of experience, talent and training.

Ease of use: 4 stars. The website is organized so it is very easy to use. However, there is nowhere to sign up for classes online. We suspect that many people would use this feature if it were available.

Functionality:  4 stars. There are links to a Facebook, Twitter and Youtube channel. This is certainly adequate, but the brand would be enriched by a blog (new content on a website is always a good thing!) and perhaps a few other interactive elements.

Content: 5 stars. The content is well-written and speaks to the professionalism of the business.

Appropriateness: 5 stars. This is an artistic yet professional website that will do much to build the brand.

Overall: 4.6 out of 5 stars
