It’s easy to brand a country club: think green, sporty, elite and even a little snobbish. People become members of a club not just for easy access to excellent facilities, but for a built-in social scene and a little prestige as well. Green Woods Country Club seems to know this, and has put together a well-rounded CSS site that will appeal to interested parties regardless of what they are looking for in a country club.

The background of the website is the perfect day for a game of golf: a deep blue sky with fluffy clouds over blindingly green grass. A top of the line club is poised to hit a pristine white ball. Golfers will be salivating at this image alone, but the website makes it immediately clear that this is not all that they have to offer. Restaurant. Clubhouse. Lessons. Events. In short, everything you could expect from a club and more.
The color scheme is particularly interesting. In addition to the predictable blues and greens mentioned above, there are pink accents. These are used in a way that plays down the feminine connotation of the color and instead simply adds high contrast against the predominantly green background. However, with more and more women playing golf, a touch of femininity may be the right marketing approach for a country club.
Creativity: 5 stars. The golf background is clean, crisp, and highly relevant to golf. Colors are used with attention to contrast and appropriateness for the subject. In addition, the site has used creative design to incorporate a variety of different elements, including a calendar, weather applications, and PDF pages where they are appropriate. It’s difficult to fit so many diverse applications on a page without crowding or slow loading.
Ease of use: 5 stars. The pages are all easily accessible from a navigation bar, and the pages are intuitively designed so that you can find the information you are seeking quickly.
Functionality: 4 stars. As we mentioned before, the website has many different functions, allowing you to see the weather, an event calendar, and everything else that you need to know before setting out for a day on the green. However, we were unable to find links to a Twitter, Facebook, or other social networking site. These are essential to modern businesses, so their lack makes the country club look behind the times—hardly a positive image.
Content: 4 stars. The content is free from error and easy to read. However, there is room for improvement. The copy does not appear professionally written—for instance, the list on the home page has both fragments and full sentences where a professional would stick to only one of these for a sense of continuity.
Appropriateness: 5 stars. From the golf club shaped bullets to the rich greens in the background, this website is all about golf.
Overall: 4.6 out of 5 stars. The Green Woods Country Club has a website that makes us want to take up golf just so we can play there!
